Which dinnerware set suits your table?
A dinnerware set is a coordinated collection of dinner plates, side plates and bowls, often with added mugs, all matching in glaze and shape.
Think of this page as your map: it shows how sets are put together and guides you to the right tableware by number of people, material, colour and style.
Every piece in a set shares the same glaze and shape, so there's no tedious mixing and matching.
All sets in this selection are dishwasher safe, and almost all are microwave safe too.
Glazes that vary slightly from piece to piece give every set its own lively character.
What's included in a dinnerware set?
A dinnerware set contains three or four pieces per person: a dinner plate, a side plate and a bowl, plus a mug in the larger versions.
The piece count in the name tells you straight away how many place settings you get. Simply divide the total number of pieces by the pieces per person. Sets with 12, 24 and 36 pieces have three pieces per person, while 16, 32 and 48 pieces have four. There are also sets with 18 and 36 pieces for 6 and 12 people, as well as 24 and 48 pieces with mugs for 6 and 12 people.
| Dinnerware set | Pieces per person | People |
|---|---|---|
| 12-piece | 3 (dinner plate, side plate, bowl) | 4 |
| 16-piece | 4 (plus mug) | 4 |
| 18-piece | 3 | 6 |
| 24-piece | 3 for 8 people or 4 for 6 people | 6 or 8 |
| 36-piece | 3 for 12 people or 3 for 12 with a larger selection | 12 |
| 48-piece | 4 (with mug) | 12 |
“A good set doesn't start with the pattern, but with the question of how many people sit at your table.”
Which size is right for you?
The right size depends on how many people regularly eat with you, plus a small buffer for guests and for the odd piece that gets broken.
For couples and small households, there are sets for 4 people. Families often go for 6 people, and if you like having guests over, 8 people. For big gatherings and holidays, 12 people has you covered. If you prefer a classic approach, take a look at the Full dinner & combination sets.
- For two: A set for 4 people gives you spare pieces for visitors.
- Family: Sets for 6 people cover everyday meals and small get-togethers.
- Hosting: With 8 or 12 place settings, your table stays matching even for larger invitations.
- With mugs: If you want to serve coffee and tea at the same table, choose the versions with four pieces per person.
Earthenware, stoneware or porcelain?
Earthenware feels warm and soft, stoneware is fired harder and is especially robust, and porcelain is thinner, lighter in colour and rings brightly when tapped.
Earthenware is defined by reactive glazes, and small differences from piece to piece are part of the craft. Stoneware stands out with matt or shimmering glazes and plenty of durability. Porcelain brings lightness and a classic look to your table. If you're curious about where it all comes from, you'll find it under Made in Portugal.
A dinnerware set contains three or four pieces per person. Work out how many people you need, choose the material for its look and feel, and pick a glaze that suits your table. All sets are dishwasher safe.
Which colour and style suit you?
Colour and style decide whether your tableware stays quietly in the background or defines the table: natural tones calm, bold glazes add accents.
Grey and Brown & Beige look understated. Green and Blue & Turquoise are fresh and natural. Black is striking, Colourful is cheerful. When it comes to style, you can choose between clean lines in Modern and cosy charm in Vintage & Country. The New arrivals show what's new, the Bestsellers what's tried and tested. The larger ranges include Nordic, Color, Color Pure, Chic, Spiral, Retro and Blase.
How do you care for your dinnerware set day to day?
All dinnerware sets in this selection are dishwasher safe, and almost all are also microwave safe; any exceptions are noted on the relevant product page.
Don't pack the pieces too tightly in the dishwasher basket, so the glaze doesn't rub against edges. If you want to add to your set later, it's best to stay within the same range and glaze, so new pieces match what you already have.

Frequently asked questions
What is a dinnerware set?
A dinnerware set is a coordinated collection of dinner plates, side plates and bowls, sometimes with mugs. All pieces share the same glaze and shape, so you can lay a matching table straight away without combining individual pieces.
Which size do I need?
Count the people who regularly eat with you, and allow one or two spare place settings. Sets are available for 4, 6, 8 and 12 people. The piece count in the name shows you how many place settings are included.
How many pieces per person are included?
Depending on the set, you get three pieces per person (dinner plate, side plate, bowl) or four pieces when a mug is added. A 24-piece set is therefore enough for 8 people with three pieces each, or for 6 people with four pieces each.
Is a ceramic dinnerware set dishwasher safe?
Yes, all earthenware, stoneware and porcelain sets in this selection are dishwasher safe. Almost all are microwave safe as well. Any individual exceptions are noted on the relevant product page, so check it before you buy.
Why do glazes differ slightly from piece to piece?
Especially with earthenware, glazes react differently in the kiln, so colour gradients and texture vary slightly. That's craftsmanship, not a flaw. Each piece gets its own character, and the set looks lively as a result.
Can I add to a dinnerware set later?
Yes, ideally within the same range and glaze so that colour and shape match. Make a note of the range and colour of your set, so it's easier to find matching pieces later and your table stays consistent.
